Explanation for Question 33 From the Writing Section on the 2020 October Sat

So question number 33 gives us some options here where we 2 can say those are it is one is, 3 are there. And so first thing we can notice is that some of these 4 are plural while some of these are singular. So the first distinction we can 5 make is whether or not we're talking about something plural, 6 or if we're talking about something singular. And so we see that whatever it 7 is, will benefit the individual's reputation we can ask what has benefiting 8 the individual reputation. And it's how observable the action 9 is, right? So it's the action that will benefit the individual's 10 reputation, the community minded action and community-minded action. 11 It's just one action. It's singular. So those isn't going to work because those 12 is plural and they is also plural. And now the question is if it's 13 it, or if it's a one and so a good rule of thumb here 14 is to go back in the passage and see what some other sentences have 15 used. 16 Do we ever say one? Do we ever say it? And we do see 17 here we say, one's right. One's likelihood of participating. 18 Um, is there an example of us saying it, 19 right? So that's the one that comes up right away, 20 but we can think about it when it says once, 21 what is it talking about? It's talking about a person, 22 right? So when you're talking about a person, you can say one, 23 however, here we're talking about action. And an action is not a person. 24 And action is a thing. It's an item. It's an it. 25 So since we're not talking about a person, but rather rather an intangible thing, 26 and action B is going to be our best choice because one can only 27 refer to a human, right? So our correct answer is going to be B.
