Explanation for Question 34 From the Writing Section on the 2020 October Sat

So for question 34, first thing that we can notice is that what we 2 have here is variation in the posture to be right. 3 Sometimes we see a century with an apostrophe S sometimes we see a plant 4 within a postural BS. And the thing that we need to know is that 5 an apostrophe equals possession, 6 right? So if you put an apostrophe with something, 7 you're saying that that thing owns something else. 8 And right now we're talking about centuries right now. 9 Are we saying that the century owns the plants, 10 the plants belong to the century? Or are we talking about multiple centuries? 11 That'd be read the sentence. It says, although it has been known for centuries. 12 So it's been known for more than one century. 13 We want the plural version and the plural version is not going to have 14 an apostrophe. You can see here, 15 the a has an apostrophe or a does not have an apostrophe. 16 B has an apostrophe on centuries, which will be no good. 17 And the other three AC and D are okay for now. 18 And now we want to see plant. So is the plants, 19 are the plants in possession of something, or are we talking about multiple plants? 20 We go back to the sentence. It says, although it has been known for 21 centuries that plants absorb carbon dioxide. 22 So the plants don't own absorbing carbon dioxide, 23 right? We're talking about more than one plant, collectively, 24 all plants absorb carbon dioxide. 25 So we don't want the apostrophe a has the apostrophe ANSI 26 has the apostrophe. So the only one that shows plurality for both the centuries 27 and the plants is going to be D so our correct answer here is 28 D.
