[Video] Q6: What number is 20% greater than 60?

Explanation for Question 6 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2019 October Sat

Now for number six, we're asked which number, 2 what number is 20% greater than six feet. 3 So, first thing we can see is that it needs to be 20% greater 4 than 60. And if something's greater than 60, 5 it's bigger than 60, right? So we can get rid of answer choice a 6 because a is smaller than 60. And so what we need to do here 7 is we're really going to take 60, and then we're going to add 20% 8 of 60 to that, right? So 0.2 times 60, 9 by adding that 60, we're making sure that we're going above. 10 And then this is what handles the 20% aspects, 11 right? So let's do it. Let's plug in 0.2 times 60 into our calculator 12 and you get 12. So we're going to do 60 plus 12 13 and that's 72. So our best answer is B. 14 Now, perhaps the hardest part of this question is reading the question and understanding 15 what it's asking, right? So it wants 20% greater than 60 16 that's 20% greater. We captured in the right half of our equation. 17 And that greater than 60 shows that 60 is our starting point. 18 And that's what we did by adding 60, 19 uh, to the decimals.
