[Video] Q5: Which of the following expressions is equivalent to 2(ab - 3) + 2 ?

Explanation for Question 5 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2019 October Sat

Not for number five, we're given the, uh, 2 expression to a B minus three plus two, 3 and they they're asking us for what is equivalent. 4 So essentially what they want you to do is simplify this expression by distributing 5 the two that's outside of the parentheses, 6 and then combining like terms at the end. So we'll start by distribution, 7 right? Because if we think about PEMDAS, 8 we know the first thing that we want to do is handle the parentheses. 9 And that includes distributing the two, two times, 10 abs do AB and two times three is six, 11 but there's a minus sign. So it's minus six plus two. 12 And we're almost done now because we can combine like terms the minus six 13 and the plus two is going to become a negative four, 14 right? If I combine those. So I have two AB minus four, 15 and we see that in answer choice B. 16 So B is our best answer.
