Explanation for Question 27 From the Reading Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 6
Question 27 says what did Theiss and Adler do as part of their study 2 that most directly allowed dice to reason that bees were repelled, 3 not by the fragrance itself in line 70 through 71. 4 So we know the answer choice here is going to have to have some 5 indication of what, in fact, the bees were repelled by. 6 So we can look back in to the passage for context on this situation. 7 And we can see starting there in line 70, 8 that the sentence says ice thinks the bees were repelled, 9 not by the fragrance itself, but by the abundance of beetles, 10 the data showed that the more beetles on a flower, 11 the less likely a honeybee was to visit it. 12 So basically what the question is asking us to do is find evidence 13 that allowed them to conclude or a procedure that allowed them to conclude that 14 it was the abundance of beetles that repelled the squash bees. 15 And you can find that here starting at 9 45, 16 it says so every half hour throughout the experiments, 17 the team plucked all the beetles off of half the fragrance, 18 enhanced flowers and half the control flowers, 19 allowing bees to respond to blossom to the blossoms with, 20 and without interference by beetles. So here you can see kind of a two 21 variable experiment that they set up with like four different groups of flowers 22 and the two variables they were testing here was fragrant. 23 So you had normal fragrance and fragrance enhanced. 24 And then you also had the other variable, which was the presence of t...
