Explanation for Question 15 From the Writing Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 4

Not for number 15. This is a transition word question. 2 Um, and it's this one here, that's 15. 3 So we're going to look at the sentence beforehand and 4 we're going to look at the sentence afterwards and see how they compare to 5 each other. Now, the part in orange, 6 right, is telling us about in the name of health, people spend much more 7 money on food that is organic, 8 right? So basically organic food costs, 9 more money and people spend it right. And then 15 or not 15, 10 but the blue sense in 15 tells us that, 11 uh, scientific evidence, however, 12 or therefore suggest that consumers do not reap the benefits. 13 Right? So there's no, there might be some benefits, 14 but they're very small. There's not a lot of them in terms of nutritional 15 value. So essentially you've got, okay, 16 this money costs or this food costs a lot of money, 17 but the benefits are low. 18 And so we see there's a contrast there, right? 19 Why would we spend money on something that doesn't have a lot of benefits? 20 So there's a contrast or conflict between these two 21 aspects of our sentence. And so that shows us that our best answer then 22 has to be. However, because however is the only word that shows us a 23 contrast, right? We spend a lot of money, 24 however, we don't get a lot of benefits. 25 Um, and so therefore doesn't have anything to do with contrast. 26 Neither does furthermore and subsequently has to do with things being in order, 27 right? So it's not saying that we spend a lot of money and then 28 we don't get benefits in that order. Right. 29 So D is no good. And that leaves us then with the answer choice 30 C.
