Explanation for Question 4 From the Math (Calc) Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 4

So now we're looking at question number four, which says that Nick surveyed 2 a random sample of freshmen at the high school to determine whether the fall 3 festival should be held in October or November. 4 And we survey 90 students and 25.6 preferred October. 5 So based on this information about how many students from the entire 225 6 person class would we expect to prefer the festival in October? 7 Right? So essentially we have 25.6% preferring October. 8 And so essentially what that means is that of the 90 students write about 9 one fourth or 23 students about what 10 have preferred to have the festival in October. 11 So we're trying to figure out how many students would prefer it in October 12 for the full class. We can just take this 25.6 and figure out, 13 well, how many students is 25% of 200? 14 And twenty-five so essentially what we need to do is not 15 that 225, 16 the full class size times 0.025 17 times 0.256, right. 18 For 25%. And so if we do that, 19 multiplication, we'll get a number of students that would have, 20 um, preferred, uh, 21 the, the festival to be in October. Right? So we plugged that into our 22 calculator 0.2, five, six times 2 25. 23 And that gives us, you know, about 57 students, 24 which is closest to answer choice B of 60.
