Explanation for Question 1 From the Math (Calc) Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 3
Now for number one, we see that we have a graph that's showing Maryland's 2 distance from her camp site during a three hour hike. 3 Right? And so this on our x-axis is looking like the time, 4 right. Of the three hour height from 12 to three. 5 And then on the Y axis is the distance from the campsite. 6 So we can tell that she gets, you know, further away from the campsite 7 and then back closer to the campsite is the, 8 um, as the hike ends. And so we see, 9 um, she stopped for a 30 minute lunch, 10 um, and based on the graph, which of the following is closest to the 11 time she finished a lunch and continue to hike. 12 Right? So the important thing to know here is that for a period of 13 30 minutes, she would have stopped so that she's not moving any closer 14 or any further to the campsite, right? Her location would be the same. 15 So we want to choose a spot on this Y axis where her location 16 isn't changing, where she's always at the same spot on the Y axis, 17 and that's going to happen right here. Right. We can see that throughout this, 18 this period of time from about one to one 30 ish, 19 um, she's always about 1.2 miles away from the campsite. 20 So that steady line means that she wasn't moving and that study line appears 21 to end, um, it just before two o'clock, 22 which would be C 1:40 PM.
