Explanation for Question 23 From the Writing Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 1
So question number 23. If we look a second at these answer choices, 2 we see that we're using the same verb every time to where, 3 to where, but just in different verb, tenses, 4 and also with, or without the word promptly. 5 Right? So this is probably a question maybe of subject verb agreement and maybe 6 a verb tense. So those are things we want to keep in mind. 7 As we read the sentence here. Now it says the novelty of this 8 comfortable work from home life. However soon, 9 got worn off quickly. And so something else I'm going to add here to 10 our list of two things to look at is also repetition. 11 Because something I noticed in the sentence is the word quickly and 12 the word soon. And the first thing I thought was this is repetition, 13 right? Because if something happens soon, we know it happens quickly. 14 We don't have to say the same thing twice. 15 That's going to be a big pattern on the sat is that you want 16 to say what you have to say and the fewest words possible without repetition 17 and a is repetitive because of these two words right here. 18 So our goal here is to get rid of anything that already sounds like 19 quickly, right? And we know promptly also sounds like quickly to 20 do something promptly means to do it very fast, 21 to do it very soon, which is a synonym for quickly. 22 So B and C are also both repetitive. 23 We don't need to say quickly twice. And so even without looking at your 24 subject verb agreement and your tense, we can land on answer choice D simply 25 because it's the only one that is not repetitive.
