Explanation for Question 19 From the Reading Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 1

Okay. So number 19 is asking us why the author ends up referring to 2 the studies that he refers to like camera rare in this passage in line 3 56. Why does he do that? Um, 4 let's just go back to like 56 and kind of see like why he 5 wants to write. Um, for me, 6 I would think, you know, the reason why you would bring up a study 7 in any case is to offer more evidence to support your argument. 8 Right. Um, he already brought up the argument. 9 It's like, he's introducing a new argument. He's just giving support to this claim 10 that he's trying to, uh, 11 basically convince us of. So like if he's six, 12 let's see. 13 Yeah. So here's where he brings it in. Um, so he's trying to explain 14 to us, okay, why gift givers actually assume that the gift price is correlated 15 with how much thoughtfulness you put into it? 16 And so basically what he's doing here is he's using this study by camera 17 and other scientists or psychologists to explain that phenomenon, 18 to explain why people, um, 19 think that attitudes are correlated with the size of the gift. 20 So it's really using this as an explanation of a phenomenon. 21 Um, and so let's go back yeah. 22 To offer an explanation and he's not introducing any argument, 23 right. The argument is already introduced. Um, 24 and he's not questioning the motive. He's trying to explain the motive. 25 Right. The question is the opposite of explain. Um, 26 and we haven't come up with a conclusion yet. Right. We don't know why 27 this phenomenon happens. There's no conclusion. We're just trying to explain what happens. 28 Right. And so that's what the study is for. 29 We're going to use that study to end up finding a conclusion afterwards, 30 but we're not introducing the conclusion by introducing the study. 31 So, um, the answer here is.
