So question 16 is the punctuation question. 2 And specifically the punctuation question about what you do when you have a quotation. 3 So here's our quotation, recontextualize the source material into a new hole. 4 And so one thing we can notice right away is that they used a 5 comma. And so if we look at the way this quotation functions in the 6 sentence, we can see as actually part of the sentence. 7 And if we take it out, the sentence will not make sense, 8 right? We can see Gilis believes his songs are original because they recontextualize 9 the source material into a new hole. So this quotation is actually essential 10 to the functioning of the sentence. And since it's essential, 11 we can not put a comma here because that implies that we would be 12 able to take it out of the sentence, 13 which we can't do, because if we take it out, it just says because 14 they, and then the sentence doesn't make sense anymore. 15 So we know that we do have to change something, 16 right. But what do we change? We can see that B and D use 17 a colon and the semi-colon. And when we think about using colons and semi-colons, 18 we know that they have to have independent clauses on both sides of the 19 punctuation.
