[Video] Q2: The ratio of trumpets to violins in a particular music classroom is 1 to 3. if there are 9 trumpets in the classroom, how many violins are there?

Explanation for Question 2 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2020 October Sat

So question number two is asking us how many violence are there in this 2 classroom. And this is a very typical ratio or proportions a problem. 3 And we know that because first off they give us a one full proportion 4 blank to blank. And then for the second half, 5 they only give us one of the numbers and they ask us to solve 6 for the other. And so the first step is to figure out what number 7 goes with, what one goes first and then three. 8 And since they say trumpets first and then violence, 9 we know that it's one trumpet for every three violence. 10 And then we're told that we have nine trumpets. 11 So on the other side, I put nine trumpets, 12 most important thing in the one place where a lot of people slip up 13 would be that you want to have trumpets on top for both or violence 14 on top. 15 For both. It doesn't necessarily matter, which is on top. 16 What matters is that? Whichever one do you choose to put on top is 17 on top and both sides of equal sign. 18 So you want to be consistent and then we're looking for X violence. 19 So now that we've lined everything up, we know we have trumpets on top 20 for both violence on the bottom. For both. 21 It doesn't really matter whether or not we have these words anymore. 22 We can just work with the numbers to solve for X. 23 First thing we can do is cross multiply. I can do X times one, 24 which is X and then nine times three, which is 27. 25 And I don't even have to do any more work. That'll give us our 26 correct answer. MD 27 violence.
