Explanation for Question 21 From the Writing Section on the 2020 March Sat
Now for number 21, our best answer's going to be deep, 2 or we have a comma after Humes and golds results. 3 Okay. And so if we want to look at ABC and D and what 4 they do differently, first thing we can notice is the comp the apostrophe rather 5 on results. Now we can ask ourselves, 6 are the results possessive? Do the results own something? 7 Or are there simply multiple results? Are there plural results? 8 If there's pleural will have no apostrophe, 9 if they're possessive, then we will have an apostrophe with the results and other 10 results don't own anything, right? The results did not own obtained, 11 more comprehensive data there's they simply had more than one result. 12 And so that's why, um, D is good because as no apostrophe on the 13 results, but we can also eliminate a 'cause of the apostrophe and see because 14 of the apostrophe. And now the difference between B and D here is, 15 um, Humes, right? 16 Let's look right here at the Humes. And D we see that Hume is 17 one person, right? 18 If we split down the apostrophe, we see that there's just one Hume, 19 one person, and that's true, right? Humans, 20 a singular researcher. If we look closely at B, 21 you see if we split down the apostrophe, we're left with Humes. 22 So that means that B is saying that there's more than one Hume, 23 and that's not the case. Humans, just one person. 24 And so by process of elimination, perhaps is the best way to go about 25 these, uh, these types of questions. But we can see that D is the 26 only one with a plural results in a singular Hume, 27 just one person. So D is going to be our best answer.
