Explanation for Question 14 From the Writing Section on the 2019 October Sat

Not for number 14, let's take a look at our senses, 2 which say the human eye reacts to wavelengths from 390 3 to 700 nanometers, which roughly correspond to the color range of the rainbow 4 from the shorter wavelengths of violet at one end and blank wavelengths 5 at the other. So basically we're talking about corresponding from one end 6 blank, another end. And so this question is less about, 7 you know, nitty-gritty grammar rules and more so about how comfortable you are with 8 use of English language and common phrases. 9 Right? And so you may have heard the phrase and to end, 10 right when we refer at one end and then the other, 11 right. Going from one to the other, 12 we always use the word to hear. 13 And so that's why D is correct. Um, 14 I think C and B sounds slightly awkward when you read them out loud. 15 Right. And as are a longer wavelengths of right at the other, 16 that one doesn't really make sense with the as are, 17 um, and with the longer, right? 18 So let's read that one from the start, from the shorter wave likes of 19 violet at one end with longer wavelengths of the other. 20 It would've made sense to say with here, 21 if you were going to use the answer choice C and so, 22 because you've used from right from blank to blank 23 at the other, you're going from one place to another. 24 And that's why two is going to make the most sense here and sounds 25 okay when you read it out loud. But if you really focus on the 26 use of the word from, if you notice that, you know, 27 you wouldn't say from, and you would be going from one place to another 28 place. And so because of the use of the word from our best answer 29 is going to be de.
