So the first 4 thing that we can see is in that first little blur paragraph, 5 introducing the passage, it says John Berkson is a farmer on his death bed. 6 Alexandra Bergson is his teenage daughter. 7 So this introduces the narrator of this passage or not the narrator, 8 but the subject of this passage and something else that is an element 9 being Alexandra Brixton. So then the passage starts off as an 11, 10 long years, John Bergson had made, but little impression upon the wild land he 11 had come to team. It is still a wild thing that had its ugly 12 moods. And no one knew when they were likely to come or why. 13 So you can see that this little piece of information is characterizing the land 14 that John Berkson, the farmer worked on. 15 And you can also see as the passage progresses kind of down this side 16 that he continues or the narrator continues to describe 17 the land. They describe it here as a horse that no one knew 18 how to break here. It wasn't a Nygma. 19 So in this case, they're characterizing the land as something that's puzzling or confusing. 20 And then this part of the passage kind of goes on to talk about 21 the successor to John Berkson, 22 namely Alexandra Berkson because his daughter was the smartest 23 of his children to take over this confusing and ast...
