Question 39 is all about providing the appropriate, 2 um, apostrophe to indicate possession. 3 So when we use an apostrophe to indicate possession, 4 um, we are essentially just demonstrating that we know the format of subject 5 apostrophe and then whatever that noun is. 6 So in this case, we're talking about the animals lives, 7 so the animals are in possession of the lives. 8 So we have animals plural as seen, 9 um, by the fact that we have that as their plural animals. 10 Um, and then we also have lives plural. 11 So it's important to note whether we're talking about a singular or plural, 12 um, now itself, 13 um, and also a subject. So in this case, 14 um, having the apostrophe after the S indicates that we are dealing with 15 a plural animals, 16 um, if we have the apostrophe in front of the ass, 17 that would indicate singular one animal. 18 Um, and so what we want to do is just essentially match up, 19 um, our answer choices with a plural, 20 um, case of possession. 21 So the, um, no change option does that effectively. 22 We see that apostrophe after the plural, 23 or excuse me, after the ASCE indicating that it is plural. 24 So, um, that for that reason, 25 it's we can eliminate enter choices, 26 C and D um, what answer choice B does, 27 is it introduces this apostrophe in the word lives that's completely unnecessary. 28 It's really just meant to throw you off as you're taking the exam. 29 Um, there's no reason for there to be an apostrophe in the lives word 30 because, um, there's no possession there. 31 The lives aren't possess, aren't, um, 32 an ownership of anything. Um, 33 there don't possess anything. So that's just the noun itself. 34 We don't need to include any type of apostrophe there. 35 So for that reason answer, choice a is correct. 36 We have that apostrophe after the asked to indicate that we're talking about animals, 37 plural, and it's not interfering with the word lives with any unnecessary 38 apostrophes, either.
