Explanation for Question 23 From the Reading Section on the 2018 May Sat

Okay. Question number 23, the passage suggests that some 2 scientists would agree with which statement. 3 Um, so we're looking for which statement is really best supported by the passage. 4 Um, choice. A domestication of cats did not occur until after the domestication 5 of cows and pigs. Let's see what we can find on that. 6 Um, we 7 don't see, based on the passage that the domestication of cats, 8 um, necessarily took place after 9 the domestication of cows and pigs as this answer choice suggests. 10 So I, as out B, domestication of cats caused them to increase 11 in size. Um, we can actually tell here that they 12 slightly shrink in size. So kind of the opposite of answer, 13 choice B um, 14 we can eliminate choice B then choice D says it was not intentionally undertaken 15 by humans. We saw some evidence for that here. 16 Um, they mostly domesticated themselves to take advantage of human 17 food and protection. So it wasn't really humans leading that domestication process C 18 therefore aligns really well with the facts of the passage. 19 So that's our correct answer choice D says it resulted from humans need for 20 pets. That's not really true. It wasn't coming from humans need. 21 Um, it was coming from the cats taking advantage of human provision of food 22 and human protection. So that's answer choice C that's the only answer choice that 23 we have really strong support for based on the evidence of the passage. 24 So choice C is cracked for number 23.
