The question asks us throughout the passage, 5 the narrator provides insight into Carrie's character mainly by. 6 So the question is basically asking us, 7 how is Carrie characterized and what devices does the author use to actually achieve 8 that? So if we look at the overall construction of the passage, 9 really, it's a series of contrasts that are illustrated. 10 So in the beginning, the author describes for us the things 11 that she sees on the stage. 12 Um, and we see from the very beginning, 13 there's a comparison between the play and actualities, 14 so there's a contrast between these two things. There's a large description of all 15 the different things that she sees in the play. 16 Um, and then we see sort of her reflections on that, 17 um, Carrie experiences as longing for the things that she sees, 18 um, she as comparing the play to 19 the rest of her life, and we 20 see a description of how, um, 21 she doesn't really see quite the same energy in her own life 22 that she sees on the stage. 23 So looking at our answer choices, ISS explaining how Carrie is similar to 24 a character faces in the play.
