Explanation for Question 37 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2018 May Sat

Question 37 says Andrew has recommended daily intake of potassium 2 is 50% greater than that, of her two year old brother. 3 What is the least possible age in years of Andrea? 4 So let's go up to the chart and see what a two year olds 5 potassium intake is. And that's 3000. 6 So to find out which age group has a potassium intake, 7 that's 50% greater than that. All we have to do is multiply 3000 8 by 1.5. And that gives us 4,500. 9 Now we can go back up to the chart and find which section has 10 4,500 and that's nine to 13 year olds. 11 So we know that Andrew is in that age range. 12 She's nine to 13. The question asks, 13 what is the least possible age in years of Andrea? 14 Since the age range is nine to 13, 15 the smallest or least possible age is nine. 16 And so that's your answer.
