Explanation for Question 3 From the Writing Section on the 2018 March Sat

Hey everybody. So question three, 2 reads a sentence right here using drip irrigation to water, 3 the roots of plants directly, rather than irrigating the soil around the plants. 4 Vertical farmers use less water than do traditional places like 5 farms. So we take a look at our answer choices and what 6 we're dealing with here. When we're looking at this question, 7 as they're doing with logical, uh, comparison. 8 So what we need to be doing is comparing our two items in a 9 proper way and how that works is making sure that you know, 10 what we're doing, um, is connecting two related things. 11 And that means that we're saying vertical farmers use less water than 12 do blank. So we're comparing vertical farmers, 13 these farmers using this vertical farming technique to something else. 14 And our options are saying vertical farmers use less water than do traditional 15 places like farms. Okay, 16 well, this option is illogical because it's comparing vertical farmers to farms. 17 We want to compare farmers probably to other farmers. 18 So our next option B says farms using traditional methods. 19 And this is again comparing farmers to, 20 um, the farms option C however says traditional 21 farmers. This is comparing vertical farmers, 22 um, to traditional farmers. 23 I'm just gonna equals trad farmers. 24 Oh, abbreviation for you. Um, 25 and then just to jump over to option D this also tells us traditional 26 farms. So, uh, all of our options are giving us farms 27 compared to the farmers, except for option C, 28 which is the one that is properly comparing. 29 Um, there are two items. 30 So when we need to do, when we're hitting any questions, 31 like these is just take a look at what is being compared when we're 32 using language like van, 33 um, and, you know, connect those things to be the same sort of thing, 34 rather than to be weird, to compare me to like, 35 uh, a farm, because I'm a dude. 36 Um, we gotta just make sure that that's proper.
