Explanation for Question 35 From the Writing Section on the 2018 April Sat
Hey guys. So wish 35 is going to be a bit of a tricky 2 question because it's going to make you think that it's mostly based on the 3 punctuation that's coming around the middle of the underlined portion, 4 the dash, the colon, or the comma, 5 but much of the correct answer here is gonna be based off of what's 6 coming after the word. So the fact is that in the sentence, 7 so does not need a comma follow me there because the sentence is saying, 8 and they have done so while keeping costs down and performing well, 9 financially, this isn't saying they have done so comma while 10 keeping costs down and performing well financially, 11 the second part needs to function as its own independent clause because 12 it's following after either a dash, 13 um, or maybe a semi-colon or something like that. 14 And it's trying to say that these people have done this thing while at 15 the same time keeping cost them. 16 So it's trying to say that they've done. So at the same time as 17 this meaning that we actually need to eliminate our comma following. 18 So to make this logically congruent. 19 So at dash or a colon could work to combine this previous sentence 20 and the, and they have done so part, 21 but when we need to focus on is that there is a comma here, 22 which makes this wrong, and there is not a calm over here. 23 In fact, these other options also contain this comma, 24 making them wrong so we can cross out our no change and all these 25 others just based on the fact that we need to not take a break 26 there and take that pause, because this was trying to say that these people 27 have done this thing while at the same time doing this other thing, 28 and a comma there messes up that meeting.
