So question 16 is going to be dealing with our rules for 2 commas periods, colons, and semi-colons. 3 Now, if you just remember real quick, a semi-colon and a period come after 4 an independent clause in between two independent clauses. 5 So I went to the store and I am very tired today. 6 Those are two independent clauses. They need to be separated by a semi-colon or 7 by a period. Now a comma can come in after independent 8 clause, um, before a, 9 uh, dependent clause, as long as there is a conjunction to connecting the two, 10 the two. So, um, I walked the dog and, 11 um, it was tired. So it was tired is not, 12 um, really, uh, a sentence on a Sunday was don't know what it is. 13 Um, so, but connecting it back with an and a comma makes 14 it so that the comma, um, can work to conduct an independent and a 15 dependent clause. 16 Now, a colon can be used following an independent clause before dependent 17 clauses that serve as like examples of what said in the 18 independent clause. So if I said, I hate two 19 things, colon dogs and 20 cats, I don't actually hate them. I love, 21 I love dogs, I guess. Um, this is an example of a proper use 22 of a colon it's coming after an independent clause. 23 I hate two things that's assigned to found some dogs and cats as a 24 dependent clause.
