Explanation for Question 2 From the Math (No Calc) Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 8
So question number two tells us that we have a graph shown above, 2 which shows the T or the distance traveled D in feet by a product 3 on a conveyor belt and minutes after it's placed on the conveyor belt. 4 And they want to know which of the following equations correctly relate D and 5 M. And so the first thing that we know about lines is that usually 6 we see it in terms of X and Y, right, 7 but here we're using DNM. And so the first step is to decide what 8 variables are new X and what variables are new Y. 9 And we can do this by looking at the axes. So on our X 10 axis, we have an N so where we would normally place an X we're 11 going to place an N. And on the Y axis, 12 we have a D so wherever we would normally place a Y we're actually 13 going to place a D. 14 And so how I would do this as I would first start by writing 15 the equation, like I normally would thinking in terms of X's and Y's, 16 and then when I'm done, I can use this table of information to replace. 17 So I get the right variables. So now, 18 if I look here, we can think about slope intercept form. 19 When we write the equation of a line where B is our Y intercept 20 and M is our slope. And so the first thing, 21 the easiest thing, at least when you're looking at a line is to figure 22 out what the Y intercept is. And that's wherever my line crosses the Y 23 axis. And this happens at zero. 24 So here I have Y equals MX plus zero. 25 So this is plus zero. I don't even need to write it right. 26 And so th...
