Explanation for Question 7 From the Math (Calc) Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 6

Question seven asks us the members of the city council wanted to assess the 2 opinions of all city residents about converting an open field into a dog park. 3 The council surveyed a sample of 500 city residents who own dogs. 4 This survey showed that the majority of those samples were in favor of the 5 dog park, which of the following is true about the city council survey. 6 All right. So we're trying to figure out what's true about the council survey 7 and what it tells us is that the council surveyed a sample of 500 8 city residents who own dogs. So it showed that the majority of those samples, 9 some of the, the majority of those who owned dogs were in favor of 10 the dog park. So a reads, 11 it shows that the majority of city residents are in favor of the dog 12 park. Now we can't pick that one because the sample that they chose for 13 their survey are only residents who own dogs, 14 not just residents in general, B the survey sample should have included 15 more residents who are dog owners. 16 Somebody can't pick because it's more of an opinion. 17 Um, it's not really saying anything about what, 18 um, what the survey shows us. 19 See the survey sample should have consistent entirely residents who do not own dogs 20 similar to B. This is incorrect because it's more of an opinion rather than 21 saying what we can infer from the survey responses. 22 And then D the survey sample is biased because it's not representative of all 23 city residents that we can select as true. 24 As I mentioned before their sample with just residents who own dogs. 25 So therefore we know that it's not representative of all residents, 26 because it doesn't include those who do not own dogs. 27 So for that reason, we can pick answer.
