Explanation for Question 1 From the Math (Calc) Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 4

So looking at number, uh, number one, now we have the monthly membership fee 2 for an online application. Movie service is $9 and 80 cents. 3 Right? And then we have the cost of viewing the television show online is 4 included in the membership fee. Right. 5 And we have this year as the membership fee. Um, 6 right. So there's an additional fee of $1 and 50 cents to rent each movie 7 online. So for one month, 8 uh, the rental fee, the total was 1280. 9 Then how many movies did she rent? Right. And so what we really want 10 to do here is create an equation where we have our total, 11 a rental fee, the 1280 is going to be 12 equal to the membership fee, 13 which was 980 plus the cost of all of the movies 14 together, um, that she paid for that month. 15 Right? So that's going to be the dollar and 50 cents times the number 16 of movies. And so all we have to do here really is solve for 17 the number of movies, right? So we do 1280 minus nine 80, 18 and that gives us three. And that's again, 19 equal to the 1.5 X. 20 So now we just need to divide both sides by 1.5 so that we 21 can stop for X. And we get the two is equal to X, 22 right? Where X is the number of movies. 23 And so that gives us our correct answer of a B.
