Explanation for Question 8 From the Writing Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 3
Now for number eights. So let's look at our sentence. 2 It says, when a plant in Seattle, Washington was redesigned for more natural light, 3 the company was able to enjoy annual electricity costs, 4 reductions of $500,000 each year. 5 And so our question is, do we need to change each year to something 6 else? Should we delete it? Whenever you see a question in this format where 7 you notice that each of our answer choices says relatively the same thing. 8 And especially when you see an answer choice that says delete, 9 you should be suspicious, suspicious of a repetition question. 10 And so when we look closely at our sentence, we see that we've already 11 used the word annual, right. 12 And annual means each year. We know that. 13 So by using the word annual, that means that we don't need to say 14 anything about the year afterwards, right? 15 If we said each year, every year per year, 16 that would be repetition against the word annual. 17 So a, B, C, or repetitive, and the least repetitive answer choice is just 18 to delete that phrase at the end of the sentence.
