Answer Choices

  • NO CHANGE

  • roughly half of their flesh turns brown, regardless of whether the apples are first stored in the open air.

  • their flesh browns when they are put directly into a controlled atmosphere but not when they are first stored in the open air.

  • their flesh turns brown when they are first stored in the open air, though not as quickly as the apple flesh in an untreated group does.

Explanation for Question 32 From the Writing Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 3

So looking at question number 32 and asks which choice offers an accurate 2 interpretation of the data in the graph. 3 Right? So this is very similar to question 31 and right here, 4 in our sense, it says, however, when empire apples are treated with one MCP, 5 right? So we're looking at the apples and rather than looking at the untreated 6 part, we're actually looking at the treated. 7 So these, um, darker looking columns, 8 right? And so it tells us their flesh turns brown when apples are first 9 stored in open air though, not under other conditions. 10 Right? So if we look at this, it says that the flesh turns brown 11 only in open air. And we see that's not true, 12 right? Because even in the controlled atmosphere, 13 some of the apples turn brown just over 40%. 14 So the not under other conditions, that's false. 15 We can eliminate a, now B says roughly half of the fresh flush turns 16 brown, regardless of where they're stored. 17 We see here, we're just under half and here we're just over half. 18 So it's looking like be as good, right? Because regardless of where they were 19 stored, when you had one MCP, 20 just about half of the flesh turn brown. 21 So B appears to be pretty good answer choice. 22 Now C says that they're flushed turns brown when they were put directly in 23 an atmosphere, but not when they're stored in open air. 24 Again, we do see Browning stored in open air, 25 right? That's right here. It's about 50% Browning. 26 So C is no good. And then finally D says their flesh turns brown 27 when they were sorted in open air, though, not as quickly. 28 And if we look here, um, we see that we don't really know anything 29 about the speed of what, of when they turn brown. 30 We only know the percentage that turned brown. 31 We don't know the timeline. So since we can't say anything about the timeline, 32 we can't say anything about, um, how quickly the Browning occurred. 33 And that leaves us with the correct answer of B.
