Explanation for Question 10 From the Math (Calc) Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 3
No number 10, we're going to use this table over here to the left 2 to help us solve it. But the question asks us, 3 what is the weight in Newtons of mercury or of an object on mercury 4 with a mass of 90 kilograms, 5 right? And so it's asking us for the weight. Um, 6 and we see here that the formula for weight in the paragraph that it 7 gives us says that weight is equal to mass times gravity we're W's weight. 8 Yep. And this mass in G is gravity. 9 So we know that weight is equal to mass times gravity. 10 And we're already told that the object weighs 90 kilograms, 11 um, which is good because it says the thing to in mass on this 12 equation is kilograms. So that M is equal to 90. 13 That w is what I'm trying to solve for right. 14 The weight. And then I just need to figure out, 15 okay, well, what is gravity then on mercury? 16 And that's where this table comes into play. And we see that mercury has 17 a gravity and acceleration of gravity, um, 18 at 3.6. So that G is really 3.6. 19 And so now I have a bullet equation I'm just going to solve for 20 w by multiplying 90 times 3.6. 21 But when you plug that into your calculator, you get 324, 22 which we see here in answer choice D.
