Explanation for Question 9 From the Reading Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 10

Question nine says in the passage when miss Vivi announces that she had said 2 camels, the student's reaction suggests that they are what? 3 So let's look in the passage about where miss Vivi is talking about seeing 4 camels. If we look in the paragraph starting in line 80, 5 it says, and can you guess what we saw from the train Ms. 6 Vivi asked, we could not camel. 7 She said, we saw a whole caravan of camels. 8 She looked around the room waiting for us to be amazed and delighted at 9 the thought. And then she goes on or the author goes on to say, 10 we all hung there for a minute. Thinking hard until Mavis Davis spoke up. 11 So the fact that the students were hanging their thinking hard, 12 indicates that they were probably a little confused by these camels. 13 They stopped for a minute and they were thinking and processing. 14 So they were probably a bit confused. 15 If we go look at the answer choices, 16 the one that matches confused best is going to be answer choice C baffled 17 answer choice a says, delighted, delighted. 18 Isn't going to go along with thinking hard, neither. 19 Well fascinated might go along with thinking hard, 20 but again, that's not going to have the right. 21 The passage doesn't have the right connotation to support that they would have to 22 have a more positive outlook, 23 upbeat type thing. So fascinated to be incorrect for that reason. 24 Baffled again is the closest synonym to confused. 25 If they're just sitting there thinking for a minute processing what their teacher just 26 said and worried also is kind of like fascinated, 27 but in the converse of that, it would have to have a more negative 28 kind of connotation in the passage, which we don't see. 29 So answer to number nine would be C.
