[Video] Q13: Question 13 from the reading section of official sat practice test 10

Explanation for Question 13 From the Reading Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 10

10 13 asks as used in line nine, 2 backed up most nearly means what? 3 So let's scroll back and look at the sentence they're talking about. 4 It says that means a new transit system has to be backed up by 5 something that impels complimentary reductions in car use. 6 So we can think of some words off the top of our head that 7 we can replace backed up with. And the first word that comes to my 8 mind is something like reinforced. 9 So that means that a new transit system has to be reinforced by something 10 that impels complimentary reductions in car use. 11 So if we take this word that we've just thought of, 12 and we go back to the answer choices in 13, 13 we have supported copied substituted in jammed. 14 The answer choice that's going to most closely resemble reinforced is going 15 to be answer choice, a supported. 16 I feel like it ends the choice B it says copied. 17 That would imply that you're having two forms of this reduction. 18 And the two forms that they're talking about are complimentary. 19 So they're working together copied would imply more that they're independent. 20 So B would be incorrect for that reason. If you're looking at answer choice 21 C, it says substituted. So that would imply that one is substituting another. 22 So you'd only have one form of reduction. 23 And again, like I said, they're complimentary. So it's two forms working together. 24 So C would be incorrect for that reason. And then if you look at 25 D it says jammed, that's just not going to make sense in the context 26 of the passage. So D would be incorrect for that reason. 27 So a supported is the correct answer for number 13.
