[Video] Q34: Question 34 from the math (calc) section of official sat practice test 10

Explanation for Question 34 From the Math (Calc) Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 10

Okay, so for question number 34, 2 we're told that the relationship between X and Y can be written as Y 3 equals MX, where M is a constant. 4 And then we're told that if Y is 17 and X is a, 5 what is the value of Y when X is equal to two a 6 all right. So first let's see here. So we've got, Y is equal to 7 17, an X is equal to a right. 8 So that means that our constant then seven over a 9 is equal to M. So we now know what M is. 10 That was a missing variable in our equation. 11 And so now we know what it is and what we can do is 12 plug that in here and solve for Y when X is 13 two a right. 14 So we're told that, um, Y is equal to M, 15 which is 17 over a times X, 16 which is now two a, and you'll see we have an X in the 17 numerator and an X in the denominator, 18 or yup. Now you'll see that. So these A's will cancel. 19 And so why is really just 17 times two, 20 which is 34 making our answer 34.
