Explanation for Question 40 From the Reading Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 1
Okay, so for number 40, we're going to go back into line of 70 2 and 71. We're going to look at the sentence where it says six Pence, 3 and we're going to try to kind of replace the word six Pence with 4 something that we think makes sense there. 5 Um, so let's go back to my 70 and 71. 6 Okay. And I actually circled these words. So it was thus that they want 7 us the right to our brand new six pens. 8 Remember when I read this, I had said that six pens kind of meant 9 like our brand new rights are brand new horizon, 10 our brand new ability to affect all these changes and join in society 11 and get an education it's like opportunities and, 12 you know, new experiences. So th so they want us this right to a 13 brand new expense. If it falls on us now to want thinking, 14 how are we to spend that sixpence? 15 How are we to use those new opportunities or those new rights that we 16 have, or that new experiences that we're going to be able to have? 17 So it's more so, like it's not six Pence is not being used in 18 the figuratives in the literal sense, 19 because six months would usually mean like income. It's actually being used as like 20 a figurative sense, like, oh, our new like rights, 21 our new power, our new opportunity. 22 Um, so just find a word that kind of fits in there that that 23 kind of is similar to what any of the words that I just mentioned. 24 And you can see here that the only one that kind of matches any 25 of the words I just mentioned is see opportunity perspective has nothing to do 26 with opportunity or experience or new rights, 27 knowledge, and tolerance also have nothing to do with that. 28 So it becomes a clear choice here. Um, 29 so C is the answer.
