Explanation for Question 23 From the Math (Calc) Section on the Official Sat Practice Test 1

So question number 23 asks us of the following, 2 which program's ratio of it's 2007, 3 but two it's 2010 budget is closest to the human resources 4 programs ratio of 2007 to 2010. 5 Right? So we're coming up with a ratio we're saying 2007 to 2010. 6 And the first one that we want to think about is human resources, 7 right? Cause that's kind of our starting point is our reference point actually. 8 So let's look at human resources here in 2007, 9 human resources had a budget of 4 0 5 1 0 5 0. 10 And then in 2010 it had a budget of 11 5, 9 2 1 3 7 9. 12 Right? So it went up by about 2000. 13 There are 2 million, 14 2 million thousand. The units get a little funky with this here, 15 but it goes up by about 200 or 2 million the way it looks. 16 Right? And so now we just need to see which of the following are 17 closest to this ratio. 18 And now if we want to look at this ratio in an even more 19 productive way, we can think about it as a fraction. 20 We can take our numbers and we can put them over a 21 fraction bar actually, instead of the colon, 22 it's like the colon takes the place of the fraction bar and then we 23 can divide those and get a decimal. And that'll be much more useful to 24 us because a decimal is going to be easier to compare than two numbers 25 in a, in a simple ratio. So if we do 4 0 5, 1 0 5 0 26 and divide that by 5 9 2 1 3 7 9, 27 we get 0.68. 28 So we want to find a decimal for one of these is equal to 29 0.68. So let's look at natural resources, 30 righ...
