Explanation for Question 23 From the Writing Section on the 2021 May Sat (International)

Hey guys. So question 23 is going to be dealing with run-on sentences and 2 how to combine longer sentences. So as you can see, 3 question one is asked our question 23, excuse me, 4 is asking us about this extremely long sentence right here. 5 It starts with one proven way, 6 and it goes all the way down to identity. 7 And we see is this middle parking underlined. 8 So let's just read this in full one proven way for marketers to appeal 9 to a target audiences through identity marketing advertisements that demonstrate the fit to the 10 product and the audience's sense of identity. 11 So we see right there is that we need a complete sentence right there. 12 And we know that because of the fact that there is a colon right 13 here, a colon is following independent clause and it's, 14 um, it precedes a dependent clause. 15 And we use it when we're trying to say like an example or a 16 sub example of something. 17 So here, this is telling us one proven way for marketers to appeal to, 18 uh, or excuse me, it's saying identity marketing. 19 And here's an example of that, or an explanation of that, 20 which was giving us a colon. And the explanation of that, the thing about 21 it is we need to put a period after that. We can't continue a 22 further sentence after a dependent clause like that when 23 we're using a colon. So we can't have independent clause colon, 24 um, dependent clause that another sentence tagged on, 25 even though we couldn't normally tag this on, if it were a different kind 26 of sentence here, we just have to do option B, 27 which is just putting a period and ending this.
