Explanation for Question 27 From the Writing Section on the 2020 October Sat

So question 27, 27 has given us the same verb, 2 but in a couple of different tenses, right past present one with a well, 3 one with a half. And so our main goal here is to figure out 4 what verb tents do we want to use in order to do, 5 in order to do that, we kind of have to look earlier in the 6 passage earlier in the sentence to get examples of what the author was already 7 doing so that we can mimic that so we can emulate it. 8 Right? So we'll start with that sentence for the program participants okayed, 9 we ended up getting rid of that word, right? And we said, 10 permitted and permitted here is past tense. 11 So that's something to keep in mind, right? They permitted the installation of a 12 device that limited again, 13 past tense, the use of air conditioning unit when demand was highest. 14 And so we can see we've used two past tense words here. 15 And so what we want to do is continue with that pattern. 16 If you use past tense before you want to continue to use past tense 17 and we'll place changes from past tense, 18 that's future, right? Half place is passed in 19 place is also passed. So maybe we're deciding between these two, 20 right. A is present. So a is no good, 21 just like B, but if we look at what we've already said, 22 limited and permitted, we didn't use the word have. 23 So even though have, does make it sound past tense, 24 it's not the same past tense that we've already used. 25 We want it to be almost exactly the same to what's already been done. 26 So our best answer is going to be B.
