Explanation for Question 19 From the Math (No Calc) Section on the 2020 March Sat
Now question number 19 is asking us to solve for the value of X 2 that satisfies this equation. And when they say satisfies this equation, 3 what they really mean is just to solve for X. 4 So let's go ahead and rewrite the equation. 5 And if I want to solve for X here, the first thing I can 6 do is try to get rid of this 0.6. 7 And I can do that by adding 0.6 to both sides of my equation. 8 When I do that, I'll get that three X is equal to 2.4. 9 And now all I need to do is divide by three, 10 right? Cause that X still has a three attached to it. 11 And now when I do 2.4 divided by three, 12 we should get about 0.8 and I'll just go ahead and double check that, 13 right? So 0.8 times three that's four, 14 2.4. Perfect. And so when we solve for X here, 15 we get 0.8. And so that's what they mean by saying we're X satisfies 16 the equation because what we just did would show that if I did three 17 times 0.8 minus 0.6, 18 I would get 1.8, which means the equation is true. 19 Therefore it is satisfied, right? So our best answer here is going to be 20 X is equal to 0.8.
