[Video] Q7: The table gives some values of x and the corresponding values of f(x) for polynomial function f. which of the following could be the graph of f in the xy-plane, where y=f(x)?

Explanation for Question 7 From the Math (No Calc) Section on the 2020 March Sat

So for number seven, our correct answer is D so let's take a look 2 and see how we can land on D is our correct answer. 3 And so looking at number seven, it says the table gives some of the 4 values of X and the corresponding values of F of X or Y right. 5 F of X and Y are the same thing for polynomial function. 6 X polynomial just means that it has an 7 X squared or next to the third. It's not a simple line, 8 right? There's going to be some curving in the function. 9 And now it's asking us, which of the following could be the graph of 10 F in the X, Y plane, or Y is equal to F of X. 11 So basically they're asking us, how can we graph this function? 12 Right? And so if D is the correct answer, 13 we would expect that the coordinates here in this graph or in this chart 14 are the same as the coordinates in this graph. 15 Right? So some really important coordinates that you're going to want to look out 16 for are the Y intercept and any X intercepts right now, 17 if we look, we don't have any, um, 18 X intercepts noted here explicitly, 19 at least because all that we have are, 20 um, non-zero, uh, Y values, 21 wherever there's an X intercept, right? Our Y value is going to be zero, 22 but we do have our y-intercept right? 23 When X is zero, our y-intercept is two. 24 If X is zero and our, why is two, we can visualize that as 25 being our Y intercept, right? And now, 26 if we look back at D in fact, 27 we are at to where requests, where we cross the X axis. 28 In fact, the only...
