Explanation for Question 7 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2020 March Sat
So question number seven gives us what is called a box and whisker plot 2 box and whisker plot. 3 Um, the reason being, because you can see there's a little bit of a 4 box right here, and then they have these lines that jet out, 5 which are like whiskers. Um, and so if you look at this box and 6 whisker plot, it gives us actually a lot of important data. 7 And so just as a summary, um, 8 of what is happening here, this line in the middle of the box is 9 always going to be our median and the line at the very top of 10 the highest whisker is our max and the line at the bottom is our 11 men. And now these two lines here are not tested 12 very often, but they do come up and this is going to be our 13 25% mark and our 75% mark. 14 And so if you've ever gotten a standardized test back, 15 odds are, you've seen what core tile you're in and they might or percentile 16 you're in. 17 Um, and so it might say like the 90th percentile or the 80th percentile, 18 and that's basically what these are. This is the 75th percentile or where 19 75% of the data points are below that number. 20 And this is what you call the core tile, right? 21 25% is one quarter. It's the core tile where 25% are below. 22 And so basically you can summarize where all the data points fall using a 23 box and whisker plot. So let's go ahead and dive into what the question 24 is actually asking us. Um, 25 it says which of the following would be, could be the median annual cost, 26 right? So we have a lot of information...
