[Video] Q36: The linear function of f is defined by f(x)=cx+d, where c and d are constants. if f(50)=27,000 and f(100)=38,000, what is the value of c?

Explanation for Question 36 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2020 March Sat

Now number 36, it tells us that a linear function F is defined by 2 F of X is equal to C, X plus B or C and D 3 are constants. And so you'll see the sat say this pretty often when it 4 refers to something as a constant, it simply means it's going to be a 5 normal number, right? Like a four or three or a negative number, 6 like negative one. But it also means that that number will not change. 7 So C will always be the same number in D will also always be 8 the same number. So it tells us the F of 50 is 27,000 and 9 F of a hundred is 38,000. So what is the value of seat? 10 So essentially what we're going to do here is we're going to create two 11 equations, right? If F of X is equal to C X plus D, 12 and we have two variables that we're looking for here, 13 we're looking with C and we're looking at D then what we can do 14 is we can create a systems of equations using these two bits of information 15 to create the two equations that will allow us to solve for C. 16 So our first equation will use the F of 50, 17 right? So F of 50 is 27,000. 18 So that means that 27,000 is equal to C times 50. 19 In other words, 50 C plus D. 20 Right? So we've now used this to plug things in here and got one 21 equation. Our other equation we'll use the F of 100, 22 which tells us that 38,000 will be equal to 100 times C or 23 100 C plus the, and now to solve for see what we 24 can think about doing is elimination using the elimination method to cancel 25 out the D variables. 26 If I want to use...
