[Video] Q20: A set of data is represented by the scatterplot in the portion of the xy-plane shown. which of the following linear equations best fits the data?

Explanation for Question 20 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2020 March Sat

Now number 20 has given us a set of data in a scatterplot, 2 right? And we need to know which of the following linear equations best fits 3 the data. So essentially they want to put a line of best fit and 4 the line of best fit might look something like this. 5 You know, it kind of goes through our data in a way that characterizes 6 the data. They go in the same direction. It's generally close to all of 7 the points. And so if we draw a line like this, 8 what we can first figure out is our slope, 9 right? And if we look at our slope, it's going up from left to, 10 right. So that means we must have a positive slope. 11 And so just from that, we can eliminate answer choices, 12 a and C or actually I was looking at the wrong ones there, 13 just from that we can actually not eliminate, um, 14 any of the answer choices. 15 So maybe this is somewhere where you got caught up, right? Because usually we 16 write our equations for lines, with the slope being first, 17 but here they actually put the Y intercept first. 18 Um, but we could actually go ahead and eliminate a and C because we 19 know that our Y intercept isn't going to happen in the negative region. 20 Right. Cause here's 90. So our zero is all the way down here. 21 We expect to hit the, the Y axis at about, 22 um, maybe somewhere up here, 23 but definitely higher than zero so we can eliminate any and we can eliminate 24 C and now we just have to figure out is our slope going to 25 be, um, 1.6 or is it going to be 16? 26 Rig...
