[Video] Q3: The graph of y = f(x) is shown in the xy-plane. what is the value of f(0) ?

Explanation for Question 3 From the Math (No Calc) Section on the 2019 October Sat

Now question number three shows us the graph of Y equals F of X. 2 And they're asking us what is the value of F of zero? 3 And so for asked for the value of F of zero, 4 the first thing we need to do is think about what this notation is, 5 right? The graph is F of X. 6 So for looking at the zero, that essentially means that the point that we're 7 looking at has an X value of zero. 8 So an X value of zero, and that occurs right here on the Y 9 axis, right? So somewhere down this line here, 10 and then we know that we're being asked for the F of that value, 11 right? F of zero. And when you see F of something, 12 that's really just a fancy way of saying the Y value. 13 So essentially we're being asked, what is the Y value of the graph when 14 X is equal to zero? And if we look at X is equal to 15 zero, we see that we have a Y value of negative eight, 16 essentially, where we cross the Y axis, right? 17 Our Y intercept. So since our Y intercept is negative eight, 18 our answer to this question also has to be negative eight.
