[Video] Q33: In the xy-plane above, line k passes through the points (0, 2) and (3, 0). if the line k is defined by the equation y = mx + b, where m and b are constants, what is the value of b ?

Explanation for Question 33 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2019 October Sat

Uh, question number 33 shows us a graph right of the line. 2 And it tells us the fill line K passes through the 0.0 comma two 3 and three comments zero. Right. 4 So let's go ahead and see where those points are here. 5 We see we have an X of zero, so that's right here, 6 which means that right here on the graph, we must be at two. 7 And then it tells us that we also pass through three comma zero. 8 Right? So when our Y value is zero right here, 9 that happens at this point on the line, which means that our point where 10 we cross the X axis must be at three, 11 right? So we crossed the Y axis at two and we cross the X 12 at three, and then it tells us that we have Y equals MX plus 13 B. And it wants to know what is the value of B. 14 And so in order to do this problem, we need to know what we 15 normally call V and Y intercept form. 16 And B is always going to be your Y intercept. 17 And they essentially gave us that in this point right here, 18 because your Y intercept will always occur where you cross the Y axis, 19 which happens when X is equal to zero. 20 And we see that right here on the graph that we cross the Y 21 axis at two, when our X value is equal to zero. 22 And we got that from this point here in purple. So if we're crossing 23 it positive two, that means that our B must be equal to.
