[Video] Q17: Based on the data, which of the following is closest to the probability that a randomly selected adult who is 18-35 years old prefers to live in a cool climate?

Explanation for Question 17 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2019 October Sat

Now for number of 17, we're given a chart with climate preferences and 2 were also given a table, right? And some information in the paragraph. 3 And it tells us that according to a 2010 census census, 4 the adult population aged 18 years or greater in the United States was this 5 many. So that's how many, 18 or older people we have. 6 And then 2010, they conducted a survey about their climate preferences, 7 right? And that survey we can find right up here. 8 And then it tells us based on the data, which of the following is 9 closest to the probability that a randomly selected 18 to 35 10 year old, right? So this is the whole people that we're choosing from. 11 We're not choosing from all people greater than 18, 12 just 18 to 35 for first live in a cool climate. 13 Right? And whenever we try to create a probability, 14 if we need to make a fraction where our numerator is, 15 what we're interested in, which I'll abbreviate is int. 16 And then our denominator is our total. And in this case, 17 our total isn't everybody in the survey. 18 It's just the people that were 18 to 35. 19 So we should ask ourselves how many of those people do we have? 20 This is 18 to 35 and it's 508. 21 So here, our denominator actually has to be 508. 22 And now we're interested in of these 508 people just then within 23 that row there, just within the 18 to 35 year olds, 24 how many preferred a cool climate? You see a cool climate right here, 25 and that's 168, right? 26 So I'll put 168 in my numerato...
