16 access to link, 2 um, a particular, uh, 3 set of phrases. So we're trying to figure out what the right transition word 4 or phrase is here. The context says excited patrons provided MacPherson 5 with funds to undertake a research trip. They were not disappointed. 6 So the no change option right now is using a comma to connect these 7 two pieces, which are both independent. 8 They were not disappointed and excited. 9 Patrons provided MacPherson with funds. So because we're trying to use two independent 10 clauses here, it is incorrect to have that comma. 11 So the no change option needs to be eliminated. 12 Answer choice B says I'm excited. 13 Patrons provided McPherson with funds. Meanwhile, 14 they were not disappointed. Again, this comma here is combining an independent clause. 15 Meanwhile, they were not disappointed with another independent clause. 16 So it's out answer choice C uses, 17 and it says excited patrons provided McPherson with bonds and they were not disappointed. 18 Um, in this case, we consider Ann to be a coordinating conjunction 19 and a coordinating conjunction is a great way for us to be combining 20 independent clauses. We have excited patrons who weren't disappointed. 28 So those two meanings are pretty consistent. We don't want to include that. 29 Whereas, so choice C is our best answer for question number 16, 30 using that coordinating conjunction is a great way to combine the two independent clauses.
