Explanation for Question 3 From the Reading Section on the 2019 March Sat
Next up is question number three, 2 as he is in line 38, housed is most similar in meaning to which 3 other word used in the passage. 4 So let's first take a look at line 38 and the use of this 5 word housed here. 6 We see the context is 7 leading the way back through the Noonday blaze and into the main building where 8 the violins violas, cellos and double basis were housed. 9 So housed here, we can see me as, 10 um, where they were kept, where they were stored, 11 um, basically their home, um, 12 and, and how they restored in the main building. 13 Um, and sometimes it's helpful for those these vocabulary questions too. 14 Before you take a look at the answer choices, fill in your own word, 15 your own synonym that fits in this context, 16 um, without sort of getting thrown off by what the answer choices might be. 17 So when we look at our answer choices, 18 um, our options are covered, 19 moved, stored, and opened. 20 So stored is going to be our correct answer choice here. 21 Housed is just indicating where the instruments are kept. 22 And that's the same use that we see in line 27. 23 Um, line 27 says, 24 uh, they are, the musical instruments were stored in a classroom trailer. 25 So stored and housed are used the same way here. 26 Um, and you can see that in terms of the sentence construction, 27 as well as in terms of their literal meaning they're, 28 they're used the same way. Um, the other answer choices covered, 29 moved and opened don't quite fit in context. 30 Um, one way that we could tell that is by inserting those words into 31 the places in lines, 32 38 and 27, where we see housed and stored. 33 Um, and if you do that, you'll see that they don't fit quite as 34 well. So our best answer choice for number three is going to be C 35 stored.
