[Video] Q20: Which choice provides the best evidence for the answer to the previous question?

Explanation for Question 20 From the Reading Section on the 2019 March Sat

All right. Question 20 is asking us which choice provides the best evidence 2 for the answer to the previous question. The previous question being number 19. 3 So number 19 was asking us about the survey respondents represented 4 in figure one. So if you remember from that answer, 5 um, this figure one is representing the 2010 survey that 6 is referenced in paragraph two. So that's the study that we're looking at here. 7 Um, so when we want to provide the best evidence for the previous question, 8 we're going to keep in mind the answer twice for question number 19. 9 Um, this idea in B that these volunteers are 10 experiencing a decrease in the level of certain hormones after volunteering. 11 So when we look at the passage, um, 12 the location of that discussion is towards the end of the paragraph or 13 the last passage, excuse me. Um, 14 and we see that, 15 um, the social psychologists dotes that helping others may signal our bodies to release 16 pleasurable chemicals, such as oxytocin. 17 Um, but it might also mute our stress response causing us to release fewer 18 drawing, stress hormones, such as cortisol and this other chemicals. 19 So we see that there are some chemicals kind of increasing in the body 20 as a result of these altruistic acts and some chemicals decreasing. 21 So this is lines, um, 22 68 to 75. 23 So this should be our correct answer choice, 24 but let's make sure that this is reflected in one of the answer choices 25 to the question, um, get there looking at the second half 26 of that quote. So lines 71 to 74. 27 Um, this is really the only place in the passage that those different hormones 28 are actually discussed. So we don't need to worry about ruling out, 29 answer choices, a, B or C, none of those contain any details about the 30 chemicals in the body that are decreasing as a result of carrying out these 31 altruistic acts. So we can safely choose answer choice D for 32 number 20.
