Explanation for Question 6 From the Math (Calc) Section on the 2019 March Sat
Question six says Gerardo has three blue shirts and w 2 white shirts in his closet. And these are the only shirts in his closet. 3 If Gerardo selects a shirt at random from his closet, 4 which of the following gives the probability that Gerardo will select a white shirt. 5 So since we know that the total amount of shirts is 6 the amount of blue shirts, plus the amount of white shirts, 7 we know that the denominator is going to be the total number of shirts. 8 So that's going to be three, the number of blue shirts, 9 plus w the number of white shirts. 10 So from that, we can eliminate answers to see and answer D we 11 also know that we're looking for the probability of selecting a white shirt, 12 which means that the numerator should be the number of white shirts, 13 which in this case is represented by w and so we know that the 14 answer must be a w over three plus 15 w.
