[Video] Q13: Which choice provides the best transition from the previous paragraph?

Explanation for Question 13 From the Writing Section on the 2019 April Sat

Now number 13, it says which choice most effectively sets up the information that 2 follows in the sentence. So let see what information follows. 3 It says while many principalities had court theaters would usually 4 appoint a director to oversee the place. 5 So it's talking about most places had theaters. 6 Typically we appoint a director to oversee the place, 7 but remember, in the sentence, even before this, 8 it said that the duke of sex, 9 many gym, um, oversaw each production. 10 So this is kind of an odd case where the duke is very involved 11 and then the previous or the next sentence rather says, 12 typically Dukes are not involved. 13 They hire a director. So if we look at, 14 say, say, if we look at a, 15 it says the high degree of involvement was unusual and that should make 16 sense, right? Because it, this high degree of involvement is referring to this duke 17 here. 18 And it's unusual because most people hire directors. 19 So a makes a logical sense right now, 20 B says George had been interested in the arts from a young age and 21 neither of these sentences before or after. 22 Did we talk about George's childhood? 23 Right? So this whole young age thing is kind of irrelevant. 24 Now C says, uh, sex mentioned was not a, 25 was not a major cultural center. Again, 26 we're talking about the Duke's involvement in the place. 27 We're not talking about, you know, the culture of that particular, 28 uh, district. So C is also off topic and then D says 29 the duke maintained one of the best orchestras in Europe, 30 as well as an opera company. Now we were just talking about, 31 um, local theaters, right? Not particularly orchestras, 32 not opera companies. Um, you can see we're talking about plays actually in particular, 33 that happened in the theaters. So these two things are off topic as well. 34 The only answer choice that is on topic is answer choice a.
