Explanation for Question 42 From the Reading Section on the 2019 April Sat

For 42, we want to know what Burke's attitude towards the gentlemen of France 2 would be best described as, so if we go to line 76, 3 we can see, it says not being 4 illuminated with the light of which the gentlemen of France tell us they have 5 got so abundant a share, they acted under a strong impression of the ignorance 6 and fallibility of mankind. 7 So just from the words, 8 ignorance, and valuability, we can tell that he doesn't think very highly 9 of them. Those are words with negative connotations, 10 and he's saying that they acted under a strong impression of them. 11 So definitely doesn't feel too great about them. 12 Now, if we look at our answer choices, I went ahead and wrote some 13 synonyms to help us understand what the words mean. 14 So we have disrespectful, compassionate, 15 jealous, and fearful. And thinking back to the words he used to describe them, 16 I think the best choice would it be disrespectful or scornful, 17 which is it? It definitely didn't feel fearful towards them or jealous 18 and definitely not compassionate. So we know a is the correct answer.
