[Video] Q6: If 7(2x - 5) - 2(2x-5) = 4(x + 5), what is the value of x ?

Explanation for Question 6 From the Math (No Calc) Section on the 2019 April Sat

For number six, we are given if seven times two X minus five, 2 minus two times two X minus five equals four times X plus five. 3 What is the value of X? So the first step would be 4 to distribute everything. But before we go ahead and do that, 5 we can see that both the seven and this negative two are being multiplied 6 by two X minus five. So we can go ahead and combine like terms 7 so that it'll be less distributing in the end. 8 So seven times two X minus five, 9 minus two times two X minus five will leave us with five 10 times two X minus five. And then we have that is equal to 11 four times X plus five. 12 So now I can go ahead and distribute and that'll give me 10 13 X minus 25 equals four X plus 20, 14 then to solve for X I'll subtract four X from both sides. 15 So that gives me six X minus 25 equals 20. 16 And then adding 25 to both sides gives you six X 17 equals 45, and now to get X alone, 18 you divide both sides by six. 19 So X equals 45 over six, 20 but that is not in simplest form. We can go ahead and divide the 21 top and the bottom by three. 22 So that'll leave you with 15 over two, 23 which is beat.
